Perhaps best known for his time as part of the Detroit Red Wings squads of the late-1990s that won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1997 and 1998, Viacheslav "Slava" Fetisov would enjoy considerable amounts of success as a member of the Soviet Union National Team from the late-1970s all the way through the decade of the 1980s, winning two (2) Olympic gold medals, seven (7) IIHF World Championship gold medals, three (3) IIHF World Junior gold medals and a Canada Cup along with numerous medals from other events and tournaments. A member of the prestigious "Triple Gold Club" and inducted to the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2005, offered here is this Soviet Union National Team jersey donned by Fetisov during the late-1970s, circa 1977 to 1979. Made by Kisapuku, both a brand tag, displaying a size "54-56" designation, as well as a washing instructions label is sewn into the collar while the Kisapuku logo that would have been in place over the left breast is no longer present though the outline of its former placement is still able to be made out. A lightweight mesh construction garment with durene material inserts over the biceps and hem, the white mesh has turned an even light pink throughout, presumably from having been washed with the red jerseys as well, while the front is decorated with "CCCP" in single layer red twill letters. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Slava's number "2" in matching single layer red twill numerals, no nameplate is in place over the top of the reverse with no evidence of one ever having been affixed observed either. With Slava listed as wearing number "2" in tournaments such as the 1978 IIHF World Championships, 1978 Izvestia Cup and 1979 Izvestia Cup, it should also be noted that this style was also worn at the 1979 IIHF World Championships but Slava did not play in the tournament and nobody else is listed as having worn the #2 during it. Additionally, the Soviets changed jersey styles for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Sporting a rubberized white diamond pattern over the hem on both sides, the jersey exhibits game-wear via dark stick marks over the front and numerous board burns over both sleeves. With other battle scars apparent via unrepaired holes of a variety of sizes over both sleeves and lower front, red board paint transfer marks are found over both sleeves while team repairs are dotted over the lower front and left sleeve. Lastly, pilling is seen on the interior at both elbows as well as at the lower hem durene insert.
