Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023

A product of the Sherbrooke Castors and Saint-Jean Castors in the QMJHL, Paul Boutilier would be selected 21st overall by the New York Islanders at the 1981 NHL Entry Draft and go on to play a total of 288 National Hockey League games over the course of his career between five (5) different teams. Making back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Islanders in both 1983 and 1984, both against the Edmonton Oilers and winning one in his first go around, offered here is this photo-matched Islanders jersey worn by Boutilier during the 1984 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals. An all-mesh construction garment made by CCM, a tag from the brand displaying a size "50" designation in blue ballpoint pen as well as Paul's number "4" in black marker is affixed to the inner collar with a born-on date tag reading "04 84" present underneath. Accented over the reverse hem with a sewn-on CCM logo patch, the front of the jersey has been decorated with an Islanders team crest in layered tackle twill while the sleeves and verso have had Boutilier's number "4" sewn to them in dual layer blue-over-orange tackle twill numerals. Having had "Boutilier" spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate, it is worth mentioning for accuracy that the nameplate on the upper reverse is actually formed from two plates that have been pieced together by the team between the "L" and the "IER" ending. Exhibiting good game-wear, stick marks are observed through the crest on the front, lower front and over both sleeve while board burns are dotted over both sleeves as well along with board paint transfers in the same areas as well as on the reverse hem. Displaying with unrepaired holes at the left shoulder, to the right of the front and crest and over the left sleeve, the fight strap is still present on the interior along with light-to-moderate pilling at the elbows.
Regarding the aforementioned photo-match, Getty Image #171191797 taken during either Game 1 or 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals against Edmonton shows a match to the pieced together nameplate that is affixed to the upper reverse, showing where it has been mended between the letter "L" and "IER". A MeiGray LOA and COR will accompany the piece.
