Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
An absolute prize for those determined collectors of the early game, the use of hockey in advertising during the early-1900s as the sport slowly evolved was quite rare, even for Canadian companies. It was almost unheard of for an American company - especially from the south, to use hockey to hock their wares. We offer exactly that, with a "Hockey Club" rye bottle from the early-1900s issued by the Wheeling Liquor Co. of Wheeling, West Virginia. Standing just over 8" in height, the gorgeous period label is intact, with "Hockey Club" atop an attractive female player, with "Pure Rye Whiskey" beneath. There is a second label to the reverse along with a tax stamp with "1902". The original glass stopper is intact, with the bottle in especially pleasing condition, with just some toning and minor staining to the label. This is one of the best antique hockey advertising items we have ever handled.
