Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
Collectors of older Canadian Football League material, along with wax box enthusiasts will surely find this offering ultra-alluring, with author Andy Malycky’s ultra-informative “Collecting Canadian Football” guide listing 1972 unopened wax packs as rare and display boxes as extremely rare. CFL enthusiasts are surely aware of the rarity, along with the fact that 1972 marked an end to O-Pee-Chee’s football card-producing days. The 132-card issue includes 39 rather uninspiring rookie cards, although Hall of Famer Ron Estay contributes. The lineup is led by Joe Theisman’s second-year OPC card, along with cards of Ron Lancaster, George Reed, Angelo Mosca, Garney Henley, Tommy Joe Coffey, Jim Young, Wayne Harris and, relatively early in their pro careers, Tony Gabriel, Peter Dalla Riva and Dave Cutler. NFL action involving the Miami Dolphins appears on the lid of the display box, with the one (1) being offered here including a total of thirty-six (36) packs, thirty-five (35) of which are still sealed while one (1) has been opened. With the unopened packs containing eight (8) cards each as well as one (1) stick of bubble gum, all the wrappers as well as the box itself display this information as well as the original purchase price of .10 cents. With the box remaining in overall good condition while sporting things such as creasing, edge/corner wear and small tears, the packs have been shown to and reviewed by a third-party that specializes in packs/boxes (Martin Sports Cards) and in their opinion they are original and unopened except for the aforementioned pack deemed opened. Please take note that all of the packs included in this lot are offered "AS IS" and therefore no returns will be accepted.
