Regarded as the greatest international hockey series the game has ever had the privilege of showcasing to fans, the famed 1972 Summit Series pitting Canada and its National Hockey League stars against the Soviet Union and its high-flying "amateur" players who were tops in the international game was the first of its kind. With all Canadians old enough to remember the moment that Paul Henderson won the series with 34 seconds left in the eighth and series deciding game, offered here, we present this coin issued for the famed international contests. Made by Wellings Mint of Toronto, the medallion, construction of sterling silver with a proof finish over both sides, depicts a hockey scene on the obverse side and "Canada vs USSR/URRS" plus "Hockey Canada 1972" and the two countries flags on the reverse. Weighing in around 66 grams and stamped on the edge with "sterling", "00835" and other marks, the piece displays with tarnishing from age over both sides as well as light scratches and scuffs.
