Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024

eaturing an attractive design (at least in this writer’s eyes) as well as the names of players who had once dominated the era of the Original Six and some of those that would become the star power of the upcoming decade, O-Pee-Chee’s 1969-70 assembly continues to be popular in the hobby and is found here in near-complete form with 208 of the 231 cards found within the checklist. Missing a total of twenty-three (23) cards for completion, including #'s 138-T. Esposito RC, 163-H. Richard, 182-Horton, 193-Howe, 209-Orr Awards and 231-Stanley Cup among the notables that have no presence in the assembly, the group of cards that are present and accounted for are found to be in the overall condition range of VG to VG-EX throughout with card #189 of Terry Sawchuk an exception due to being cut and missing the top half while multiple creases are found over the bottom portion. For the key cards, those of 10-Beliveau (light corner wear), 24-Orr (light corner wear - bottom right corner ding) and 31-Checklist (unmarked - surface wear/indentations) are seen as falling into the grade neighbourhood of VG-EX to EX while the likes of 4-Savard RC (corner wear all the way around), 70-Hull (top left corner ding and bottom corner creases), 89-Parent (corner wear. and border wear), 180-Plante (dings to top two corners), 212-Orr AS (corner wear), 215-Howe AS (off-center and light corner wear) and 216-Hull AS (light corner wear and surface indentations) are all in the scope of VG to VG-EX for their efforts. Rounded out by a notable G to VG example of card #61 that pictures Gordie Howe of the Detroit Red Wings over the front and displays with border and corner wear, the group makes for an excellent trip down memory lane to a bygone era of the National Hockey League.
