Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Paced by the key first year cardboard of Mario Lemieux, the only player capable of holding a candle to Wayne Gretzky during the era, up for grabs here is this near-complete assembly of O-Pee-Chee’s 1985-86 hockey release. Featuring 263 of the 264 cards that make up the desirable checklist, missing only card #29 of Steve Yzerman for completion, the group is seen as being in the overall uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM for its effort, with card #9 of Lemieux presenting in the VG-EX to EX condition range because of wear to the top corners and a pair of small surface dents in the top border area. For the rest of the notables, those of 40-Bourque (slight diamond cut), 85-Coffey, 177-Messier, 257-Gretzky GL, 258-Gretzky AL, 259-Gretzky SL and 262-Lemieux RSL are all in the previously mentioned EX-MT to NM vicinity while 110-Lindbergh is closer to EX to EX-MT because of a small top left corner ding. Also including 120-Gretzky in the scope of EX-MT (small top left border ding) and 237-MacInnis RC (bottom left corner ding) in the neighbourhood of EX to EX-MT, both checklist cards are unmarked and it is worth mentioning that card #113 is creased while #112 has elastic damage to its edges. A fabulous trip down memory lane featuring examples of some of the best players to ever lace up the skates in the NHL and including a group of six (6) all-star sticker cards with Paul Coffey's example creased, don’t let this one pass your or your all-important vintage collection by!
