Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Colourfully bordered and condition sensitive, offered here is this complete set of O-Pee-Chee's 1973-74 hockey release with all 264 of the set's cards present and accounted for with most of the red bordered series one (1) offerings sporting a darker back than their green bordered series two (2) counterparts. Found to range in condition from VG to VG-EX and VG-EX to EX with light corner wear being a commonplace hinderance throughout the group, the most notable cards in the set are those of the rookie cards that picture Larry Robinson (EX to EX-MT - slight corner wear), Billy Smith (VG-EX to EX - top left corner), Terry O'Reiley (VG-EX to EX - top left and bottom right corners), Dave Schultz (EX - slight corner wear all the way around) and Bill Barber (VG to VG-EX - light red coloured border scuff). For the key cards, VG-EX to EX examples consist of 17-Dionne (off-center - light corner wear), 129-Checklist (unmarked - off-center) and 263-Checklist (unmarked - top left corner ding) while VG to VG-EX cards include those of 30-Orr (corner wear), 50-Clarke (corner wear), 66-Parent (corner wear) and 132-Sittler (corner wear - 60-40 centering). Lastly, the set is rounded out by examples of card #72 that pictures Guy Lafleur over the front and card #116, the checklist, both of which are in the scope of GOOD condition with the card of "The Flower" sporting a crease that shows on the back and centering issues while the checklist card has a crease and erased marks that are worth mentioning for accuracy. Overall, a fun trip down memory lane for our lucky winning bidder!
