Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Always released exclusively for the Canadian market and featuring the same designs as their Topps counterparts that were released south of the border, the 1982 and 1983 O-Pee-Chee baseball releases each featured a checklist consisting of 396 total cards with the assemblies both featuring a higher ratio of cards picturing players from the two Canadian teams, the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos. Featuring nearly identical designs as to what was found on that year's Topps cards, offered here are these complete sets of O-Pee-Chee baseball releases from 1982 and 1983. Starting with the earlier of the two sets, the 1982 set, found to be in an overall uniform condition scope of EX-MT to NM for its effort with unmarked checklists also being prominent, the key rookies of Tim Wallach and George Bell are found as card's #191 and a #254 respectively and are in the previously mentioned condition neighbourhood of EX-MT to NM. Joined by other EX-MT to NM condition cards of 18-Bench, 70-Raines (2nd year card - 1st pictured alone), 90-Ryan, 100-Schmidt, 187-Carew, 200-Brett, 237-Yount, 244-Carter, 268-Henderson (2nd OPC card), 300-Jackson, 361-Rose and 379-Dawson, other stars featured in the checklist are found in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set. For the 1983 release, once again found to be in an overall uniform condition neighbourhood of EX-MT to NM after inspection though a small percentage of the 396 cards are found to be in a slightly lesser state, the group is led by the key rookie cards of both Ryne Sandberg and Tony Gwynn with the Sandberg seen as being in the proximity of GOOD condition due to a crease while the Gwynn presents in the previously mentioned EX-MT to NM range. For the rest of the notables, those of 3-Brett, 100-Rose, 163-Ripken (1st OPC card), 180-Henderson, 303-Dawson, 360-Ryan and 361-Ryan Super Veteran are all seen as falling into the range of EX-MT. With the checklists once again unmarked and other stars found within the set in a consistent condition, don't allow you and your all-important collection to miss out on this pair of excellent Canadian baseball releases!
