Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Two dozen cards, all but two of them considered rookie cards, followed up O-Pee-Chee’s initial (48-card) release of 1933-34 – what a swell time for kids and fans it must have been, with other gum companies also getting involved with producing hockey cards. The colorful and very pleasing near-complete assembly of O-Pee-Chee's 1933-34 Series "B" release offered here includes 19 of the 24 cards in the checklis as well as the "Hockey Star Picture Album" released by the company that once housed them and their Series "A" counterparts. Paced by a pair of freshly graded PSA offerings in the form of rookie cards Aurel Joliat and Tiny Thompson, both of which have earned marks of GOOD 2 for their efforts, the set is missing cards 49-Siebert, 51-Aurie, 52-Goodfellow, 53-Roach and 72-Cook to be considered complete. Of note, all the included cards were inserted Into the album at one time or another so many have marks/dents on their corners while most have creases worth noting as well. For the rest of the included cards, all found in raw ungraded form, Dave Kerr's rookie offering leads the way in the grade neighbourhood of VG-EX and is followed up by the likes of 57-Wilcox RC and 62-Trottier RC in the scope of VG condition, 60-Northcott RC, 63-Kilrea RC, 66-Gracie RC and 67-Ripley RC around G to VG and 55-Robinson RC, 56-Ward RC, 58-Duguid RC, 61-Wentworth RC, 64-Brysdon RC, 65-Ayers RC, 69-Smith RC and 71-Dillon RC in the vicinity of GOOD condition. For the rest of the cards to round out the near-complete grouping, the first-year cardboard of Andrew Blair is seen as FR to G while card #54, the rookie of Bill Beveridge is in the scope of FR condition. For the album, remaining in what would be considered admirable condition with good colours displayed over the front cover along with the to be expected signs of wear such as creasing along the edges and spine, edge wear and corner wear. Additionally, the interior pages have separated from the cover but remain in good condition with light creasing and some toning present along with some small rips to the corners where the cards get placed.
