Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

One of the most coveted of all Bobby Orr cards from his playing days is the scarce 1966-67 Topps Test issue, believed to have been, like the rest of the 66-card set, distributed/available only in a small part of the United States. For the novices/uniformed, we can tell you that a lighter wood-grain border, English-only text on the back and the set’s size (66 cards as opposed to 132) are the main differences with Topps’ regular ’66-67 issue. The example of Orr’s card #35 here has been assessed a mark of NM-MT 8 from Global Authentic but there is clear evidence that the card is trimmed horizontally and short of approximately 1/16 of an inch. Additionally, the card also appears to be slightly short vertically as well. Found here in with exactly half of the set present and accounted for, thirty-three (33) of the sixty-six (66) cards in the checklist, other graded cards include a PSA VG-EX 4 example of Chico Maki's card that is housed in an older style holder and a Beckett BVG graded copy of the set's final card, #66, that pictures John McKenzie over the front and that has earned a mark of VG-EX+ 4.5. Of note, all three (3) holders show wear to both sides in the form of scratches and scuffs that are worth mentioning for accuracy. For the rest of the included cards, totalling thirty (30) strong, those that make up the group have mostly nice and sharp corners plus clean surfaces with no creases spotted on any of the desirable cardboard that is present. Exhibiting attributes that overall put them in the condition range of EX-MT to NM for their efforts, it is however worth noting that most have less-than-perfect top-to-bottom and/or side-to-side centering with half a dozen plus cards badly cut and showing a white line on an edge or two with those defects lowering the actual technical "grades" of the cards. Orr and company await your special vintage card shrine and will significantly enhance your overall repertoire – ’66-67 Topps Test groupings of any kind are offered very infrequently.
