This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
One of the most difficult positions in all of sports with those that dare play it regarded as both fearless and a bit kooky, up for grabs here is this collection of twelve (12) 1939-40 and 1940-41 O-Pee-Chee goalie hockey cards. Including a total of four (4) PSA graded offerings that include three (3) 1939-40 examples and one (1) 1940-41, the earlier issues feature examples for Tiny Thompson (VG-EX+ 4.5), Frank Brimsek (RC - VG-EX 4) and Earl Robertson (EX 5 w/ "MK" qualifier) while the lone 1940-41 is that of Johnny Mowers which has earned a mark of VG-EX 4 for its effort. All housed in PSA holders that remain in good condition and show just light scratches and scuffs, the raw cards, totalling eight (8), include examples of Turk Broda (FR - corner and edge wear, light corner creases at the top left, pencil mark on the reverse and staining), Claude Bourque (FR to G - creases, corner and edge wear and some foxing that is heaviest on the reverse), Dave Kerr (GOOD - small stain at bottom left, heavier toning at all four corners and a small tear at right edge) and Mike Karakas (VG-EX - light corner and edge wear) from 1939-40 while specimens of Broda (x2 - two different, one G to VG with staining on the reverse along with some light edge and corner wear and the other PR to FR with staining and creases as well as paper residue on the reverse from being glued down), Kerr ("Authentic" - trimmed, also has staining, pencil marks corner/edge wear) and Paul Goodman (GOOD - pencil marks, small stains/foxing and corner/edge wear). Additionally, also included with the lot is a pair of 1948-49 Exhibits post cards of Bill Durnan. With one having been graded as "Authentic" by SGC, the other is around the scope of PR to FR condition with corner and edge wear, a pen notation on the reverse, toning and a small tear along the top edge.
