Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/28/2023
Exemplifying true leadership qualities as a two-time King Clancy Memorial winner, Doug Wilson is an eight-time All-Star who spent the majority of his HOF career in Chicago. Earning the coveted James Norris Trophy in 1982, Wilson is the Black Hawks all-time franchise leader for goals and points by a defenseman. Offered here, we present this stick used by the 2020 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee during the 1987-88 season that has been signed by 21 members of that year's Windy City squad. A Canadien made 6001 model that Wilson was known to use throughout his time in Chicago, "Wilson" is seen stamped to the upper shaft while his number "24" is penned above in faded black marker ink. Retaining the original white cloth tape over the knob/handle, the tape that once graced the blade has been removed. Sporting a factory stamp reading "4544 5" on the underside of the lower shaft, the stick sports good game-use with heavy dark marks throughout the entire length of the shaft with others observed over the lower shaft and heel as well. Exhibiting additional use via some wear and missing material to the bottom of the blade and heel, some of the white paint covering the stick is stripped away near the name stamp over the upper shaft while tape residue is seen over the blade as well. Having been painted white throughout the entire length of the forehand side to facilitate the autographs, twenty-one (21) members of the 1987-88 Blackhawks have singed the stick with bold black marker ink including HOFers Wilson and Denis Savard and notables such as Steve Thomas, Darren Pang, Duane Sutter, Brian Noonan and Troy Murray among others. All the autographs appear strong and legible with some sporting just a small amount of fading. A JSA LOA will accompany the piece for the signatures.
