Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/20/2024
Spectacular and seldomly seen even as a single example let along as a near complete set, offered here is this grouping that features nine (9) of the ten (10) 1910 Imperial Tobacco SC12 Canadian Miscellany woven silks that depict hockey, Canada's national sport. With each measuring an average size of roughly 3 1/4" x 1 3/4" for their efforts, the group, including the colours white, blue, yellow, brown, green, light blue/silver grey, red, dark red and purple, the only one missing is the black coloured version. Featuring a pair of hockey sticks, a puck and a ribbon embroidered into each one along with the "HOCKEY" designation at the bottom of each as well, condition wise, the over century old swatches remain in pleasing condition for the most part with some of the included specimens showing fabric runs/"splits" and small holes, heaviest on the blue, light blue/grey silver, yellow and purple coloured silks. Additionally, also included with the near complete set of SC12's is a pair of silks from the 1912-15 S-21 Murad release that depict a player wearing the colours of either Stanford University or University of Chicago. Both measuring roughly 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" each and featuring loose threads along the borders of both silks, both remain in good condition with fold lines seen on both and some light stains on the example for the University of Chicago. Lastly, also included is a lone large Murad example of a Pennsylvania hockey player that measures roughly 5" x 7" and again has some frayed edges/threads and has been mounted on a red coloured cardboard matting.
