Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2025
With the decade of the 1970s known as one of dominance by team such as the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers, the 10-year period also brought along with it the introduction of the WHA to serve as a rival league to the National Hockey League. Also helping introduce some neat collectables during its seven (7) year period of play, offered here is this lot that includes a complete set of O-Pee-Chee's 1973-74 WHA Poster release as well as a still sealed wax pack from the release as well. Including twenty (20) posters in all to make up the complete checklist and featuring the likes of players such as Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Gerry Cheevers as well as the "Howe Line" of Mark, Marty and Gordie, the posters all measure out to dimensions of 7-1/2” by 12-1/2” for their efforts and display with beautiful full colour imagery. With the set presenting in a fairly high-grade condition range while exhibiting the normal fold lines that are seen over each one, it is worth noting that some of the posters show some light toning in spots over their reverses due the gum that was in the pack once was while a couple also show things such as fold lines that aren't from being in a pack plus edge dings/very very small tears. Additionally, some also show minor edge/corner wear as well that is worth mentioning. With the examples of 1-Smith (creasing and a small edge tear), 14-The Howe Family (small foxing spot over one edge) and 16-Hull (creasing) being easily seen condition exceptions, the lot also includes a wax pack from the release. Being sold "AS-IS" and not able to be returned, the front displays the original purchase price of .10 cents and that each pack contains two posters on its interior. Lightly unglued on the back but not appearing to be tampered with otherwise, the pack appears to be in good condition overall with no major flaws to make mention of.
