Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/24/2024
A monumental moment for all fans of hockey, with his goal at 14:47 of the second period, Wayne Gretzky added his name to the record books once again, this time taking over the all-time goal scoring record from his boyhood idol, Gordie Howe. The 802nd marker of his career and coming in only his 15th season of play, the historical goal would be assisted by longtime teammate Marty McSorely and be the headline of a game that the Kings would end up losing to the Vancouver Canucks by a score of 6-3. Going on to score an additional 92 goals before retiring from the National Hockey League at the end of the 1998-99 season, offered here is this snazzy limited-edition "802" offering from Upper Deck released during the 1994-95 season that commemorates the all-important moment. Housed in a close-to-one-inch-thick screwdown holder and serial numbered "3239/3500" on the reverse, the cool to tilt back-and-forth features Wayne's image on the front as well as his facsimile signature. Important to note that the card is NOT entirely made of 24K gold, the piece remains in overall excellent condition with light scratches observed over both sides of the thick plastic holder.
