Potting 41 goals and contributing 122 assists to finish the 1990-91 regular season with a total of 163 points in 78 games played in his third season as a member of the Los Angeles Kings, Wayne Gretzky would clear Brett Hull by a total of 32 points to claim the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's top scorer for the year. Offered here, we present this stick used by "The Great One" during the 1990-91 season. An Easton Aluminum HXP 5100 model that was acquired by our consignor from Bob Borgen, the former producer of LA Kings’ TV broadcasts who stated he got the stick directly from Gretzky after using it in a game one night, "Gretzky" factory graphics are seen over the upper portion of the shaft. Retaining Wayne's patented "Jack the Gripper" over the handle and knob, the scoring king's original black tape job is found wrapped over the blade as well. Sporting a handwritten notation reading "B47" penned by Kings equipment man Peter Millar over the butt end in black marker, the code is believed to signify “B” for the second stick used in the match, and “47” for the LA Kings’ 47th game of the season, in this case a 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins on January 17th, 1991 at the Boston Garden in which Wayne recorded a goal and an assist. Featuring an Easton blade inserted into the bottom of the shaft that has "Gretzky" stamped in small letters over the stem, the stick displays game-use via a few marks and abrasions to the shaft with dark coloured marks over both the blade stem and untaped section of the toe. Additionally, the blade tape shows puck marks over both sides while small rips/tears are seen along the top and bottom edges. A desirable piece from the game's all-time greatest player, a Shawn Chaulk LOA will accompany the piece.
