Marking the end to an important era in New York sports history, February 11th, 1968 saw the New York Rangers play their final game at MSG III, a 3-3 tie against the Detroit Red Wings, before moving in to their new and current home at Pennsylvania Plaza. Offered here, is this “Guest of Honor” pewter mug presented to Rangers legend, Bill Cook, during the final game festivities, an occasion that saw 59 of hockey’s greatest gather to take part in the various ceremonies surrounding the final game and was regarded as the greatest collection of hockey talent ever assembled in one place. Measuring approx. 5 ½” tall, the mug is engraved on the side with “Guest of Honor” and “Madison Square Garden” along with the date of “Feb 11, 1968”. Exhibiting tarnishing and surface wear via scratches throughout, the glass bottom is broken and cracked while the bottom part of the mug sports numerous dents and dings throughout. A great piece of New York sports history, the item originated directly from Bathgate's personal collection.
