Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024

Hailing from the largest hockey family in history as one of six brothers to all grace the NHL, Brent Sutter enjoyed a lengthy career in the National Hockey League that saw him suit up in 1111 games for the New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks over the course of 18-years in the league. A two-time Stanley Cup and three-time Canada Cup champion and regarded as one of the best face-off specialists of his generation, offered here is this photo-matched New York Islanders jersey worn by Sutter during the 1987-88 season, this first as the team's captain. Made by CCM and displaying a washed out Maska Air-Knit label affixed to the inner collar, the jersey measures out to roughly a modern size "50" and has had the logo of CCM as well as "Syosset Sports" embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a familiar Islanders team crest in layered tackle twill style, the distinguished captain's "C" is in place over the left breast, added to Sutter's jersey after Denis Potvin relinquished the role. Having had Sutter's number "21" sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer blue-over-orange tackle twill numerals, "Sutter" has been spelt out in single layer blue twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Featuring its original snap style fight strap on the interior as well as heavy pilling throughout the entirety of the inside, the exterior of the battle scared garment is riddled with game-wear including numerous stick and slash marks to the body and both sleeves as well as coloured board paint transfers, unrepaired small holes, material pulls and snags, heavy tape rubbing/residue and team repairs totalling at least ten (10) by our count over the sleeves, front and reverse. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, the jersey is matched with an Islanders team-issued media photo from the season that shows many of the stick marks over the lower front of the jersey. An LOA will accompany the piece.
