A product of the Red Deer Rustlers and the Lethbridge Broncos who was drafted by both the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues (20th overall) and World Hockey Association's (36th overall), Brian Sutter is the second oldest of the famous Sutter brothers and the oldest of the six that played in the NHL. Going the route of the NHL and playing a total of 779 games, all with the Blues, over the course of his career, Brian would serve as St. Louis' captain for a total of nine (9) years and played in a trio of NHL All-Star contests. Having had his #11 retired by the club on December 30, 1988, offered here is this Blues jersey worn by Sutter during the 1986-87 season in which he was limited to only fourteen (14) games played due to a back injury. An Ultrafil material construction garment made by CCM, a partially sewn over Maska label is affixed to the inner collar with a born-on date tag reading "86 07" found behind it. Measuring out to roughly a size "50" and having had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem, the front of the jersey is decorated with a vinyl Blues team crest that displays "St. Louis" at the top of it, "Blues" is spelt out in an arch above the logo in matching style while the distinguished captain's "C" is present over the left breast as well. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Sutter's number "11" in stacked tri-layer vinyl numerals that display with varying degrees of wear including missing layers and flaking/cracking, "Sutter" is spelt out in single layer blue vinyl letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Of note, as was the case with most Blues jerseys from this year/set, the nameplate on this jersey was most likely removed and reattached at a later point in its original position.
Displaying with heavy discoloration/staining throughout its entirety that make the jersey appear more cream/beige than its original white colour, the garment shows game-wear via stick marks over the front, reverse and both sleeves as well as blue coloured board paint transfer marks throughout those same areas. Additionally, the jersey as shows some small board burns over both sleeves and a couple of small unrepaired holes over the lower front.
