Only the second (2nd) Finnish-born player to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, Teemu Selanne would play a total of 1451 games during his National Hockey League career, suiting up for the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche in the NHL after developing with Jokerit in his native Finland. Owning perhaps the best rookie season on record in which he potted a total of 76 goals, Selanne would win a Stanley Cup in 2007 and the Rocket Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal scorer in 1999. Having played in a total of ten (10) NHL All-Star Game's over the course of his storied career, offered here is this jersey worn by Selanne at the 1996 edition of the annual mid-season spectacle that occurred shortly before he was traded from Winnipeg to Anaheim. A CCM made offering sporting a lone size "54" fly tag affixed to the inner collar, the logos of both CCM and the NHL shield have been embroidered into the reverse hem as well. Featuring a partially embroidered twill “Western” team crest, Selanne's number “8” appears over the sleeves and verso in layered tackle twill, with “Selanne” sewn directly to the upper reverse in matching material and style. Additionally, there is also a Jets crest on the left shoulder and 1996 All-Star Game event crest on the right. Having had aSports Registry label heat-pressed onto the interior at the top of the fight strap, sort of an anomaly from what is usually seen but still the original location it was originally applied to, it indicates that this was one of five jerseys worn for either the official photo-shoot, pre-game warm-up or in one of the three periods. Also featuring its original fight strap on the interior still, Selanne has signed behind the front crest on the interior with a black marker signature that displays well despite fading. Of note, it is believed that the jersey was worn and laundered on numerous occasions after it was released into the hobby following the game as the jersey shows fading of the signature on the interior, discoloration of the fight strap, fading and discolouration of the size tag, damage to the Sports Registry barcode above the fight strap, a hole in the fabric underneath the "8" and the pilling/snags seen throughout. Additionally, despite the uncommon placement of the Sports Registry barcode on the interior when compared with other examples that we have seen and that have come to market, research shows that the serial number (44002948) is in around the range of other jerseys from the contest for both Conferences.
Remaining in overall good condition despite the fact that the jersey shows evidence of having been worn on numerous occasions following when it was worn at the All-Star Game by Selanne and then subsequently laundered on numerous occasions as well, in addition to the attributes listed above, the jersey also shows wear in the form of a small dark mark in the white stripe of the right sleeve to the left of the "8", additional dark marks in the white stripe above the "8" on the reverse, light marks over both cuffs and some light pilling/frays around both elbows on the interior. Overall a fantastic piece and one (1) of only five (5) All-Star Game jerseys that he would have worn with a Winnipeg Jets logo crest on it, don't miss out on this garment worn by one of the game's all-time greatest players during a contest that featured all of the National Hockey League's biggest stars.
