NHL hockey in Puerto Rico? It happened. On September 23, 2006 the Florida Panthers faced off against the New York Rangers. The Panthers lost 3-2 but everyone’s a winner with Anthony Stewart’s game-worn jersey from that historic preseason game, which displays the Puerto Rico flag patch sewn on the right breast. Stewart’s No. “57” is handwritten on the size 56 flag in the collar and an NHL crest sits affixed to the back bottom hem. There is also a team patch on the inside hem that states this garment is a “2006-2007 Set #1” jersey. Game wear includes a few black marks and blue paint transfer on the right sleeve, and a faint mark on the left sleeve, which also has an unrepaired hole. Fashioned in full tackle twill, this garment has matching palm tree/hockey stick patches over both shoulders. The MeiGray patch on the inner bottom hem has number D04166, and according to their population report it is a “White w/ Puerto Rico Inaugural Game Patch - 9/23/06”.
