Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
The thought that this precious find may have originally been folded around a Turk Broda or Syl Apps rookie card or similar coveted die-cut cards of Morenz, Shore, Clancy, Conacher and others from the 1936-37 O-Pee-Chee Series “D” release is surely fascinating to lovers of pre-war collectibles. Measuring out to roughly 6 ¼” x 5” and displaying graphics of a Toronto Maple Leafs player in the middle, the wrapper boasts about getting a card with a “big chew of bubble gum” on the inside for the price of one penny. Remaining in overall excellent condition considering its age, the wrapper exhibits the usually seen numerous creases and fold lines throughout with toning and darkening present along the left edge as well. Also displaying with light wear to the center graphics, the wrapper survives with a quartet of small rips/tears, one along the right edge, the largest of the four, one along the left edge and two along the bottom edge. Additionally, this is the type of wrapper that kids could send in five of, along with five cents, in exchange for a swell O-Pee-Chee hockey board game. A prime addition to any pre-war stash this will be.
