Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Colourfully bordered and condition sensitive, offered here is this near complete set of O-Pee-Chee's 1973-74 hockey release with 260 of the set's 264 cards present and accounted for and with all displaying grey backs on their reverses. Missing cards #36, #167, #191 and #233, the assembly is in a fairly consistent EX to EX-MT condition range and is led by the key rookie offerings of Larry Robinson (very light corner ding), Billy Smith and Terry O'Riley (light corner wear) in the same scope while the first-year cardboard of Dave Schultz (bottom left corner ding) and Bill Barber (light crease, small stain on reverse) fall short of the mark and present as VG-EX to EX and VG to VG-EX respectively. For the star cards, EX-MT cards include those of 30-Orr, 50-Clarke, 66-Parent, 72-Lafleur (60-40 centering) and 132-Sittler (60-40 centering) while 17-Dionne (small top left corner ding) and 70-Perreault (60-40 centering) are seen as being in the neighbourhood of EX to EX-MT. Including approximately 10 to 12 cards that display with a notable crease worth noting for accuracy, the three checklists are seen as being VG-EX to EX for #116 (light factory crease and #263 (corner wear) while #129 (surface damage and light crease) is closer to VG to VG-EX with all three (3) remaining unmarked. The first appearance of OPC team cards is also to note with the ’73-74 set.
