Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Setting still-standing records for most assists (123) and most points (192) in a single season, Bobby Smith beat out a young Wayne Gretzky for the OMJHL scoring title in 1977-78 while winning the Red Tilson Trophy as the OMJHL's most outstanding player. Smith was also voted the CHL Player of the Year for the entire Canadian Hockey League. Attributed to that historic record-setting season, we have the Ottawa 67's jersey worn by Smith, and it has been signed and photo-matched. With no tagging remaining at the collar, the vintage tie-neck durene sweater measures out to roughly a size 52. Styled with a tackle twill team crest with "67's" appliqued, "15" is sewn to the sleeves and verso in matching material. There is also evidence of a former captain's "C" over the left breast. Smith has signed the reverse "5" in thin blue ink. Absolutely hammered with use, there are a ton of material pulls (the jersey is "bunched-up" in numerous areas), marks and holes, with blue and red paint transfer to the sleeves. There is also rust-coloured staining to the interior collar and upper reverse (possibly blood), with team repairs situated on the front (3) and shoulders (2), as well as the left (3) and right (4) sleeves. The jersey is photo-matched to a numeric image to the diagonal black mark in the top left area of the team crest, to the black mark at the lower left of the team crest, and to the damage/repair to the 5 on the right sleeve. The holes/repairs on the left shoulder are also visible on that image. This is easily one of the best junior sweaters we have ever offered.
