Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
An intriquing quartet of pre-war offerings is up for grabs here which also includes some seldomly seen Western Canadian offerings. Paced by a copy of Percy LeSueur's cardboard from the famed 1911-12 Imperial Tobacco C55 set that has been assessed a grade of PR 1 from the graders at PSA, the card sports crease throughout with wear to the corners observed as well but does retain gorgeous colours and stain free surfaces. Additionally, PSA graded offerings from the 1924-25 Crescent Selkirks set are also included with offerings of Tony Basil and Errol Gillis being present and accounted for along with a raw ungraded copy of Howard Brandow. Although labeled “1924” by PSA, hobby historian and author of two “Vintage Hockey Collector” books, Bobby Burrell informs that these examples are from the first year of the Crescent promotion, 1923-24. With the Baril example garnering a mark of GOOD 2 for its effort, making it a Pop-4 example with seven (7) graded higher, the Gillis card sports a better mark of VG 3 with the PSA Population Report telling the tale of it being a Pop-2 example. All the PSA holders remain in good condition with light scratches and scuffs present over both sides worth mentioning. Lastly, the raw card of Brandow is in the grade range of PR due to staining/water marks and puncture holes.
