Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2024
The greatest player in the history of the National Hockey League and the game of hockey itself, Wayne Gretzky opted for twigs made by Hespeler for the final two seasons of his career, departing from the well-known Titan and Easton models he wielding throughout the earlier part of his unrivaled career. Offered here, we present this signed stick used by Gretzky during the 1997-98 season as a member of the New York Rangers. A Hespeler 5500 Fibreglas model with “Gretzky” stamped to the upper shaft, the stick is decorated with Wayne’s patented black “Jack the Gripper” over the handle/knob and black baby powdered bulldog tape over the blade. Displaying a pattern/batch code of “55 5” over the underside of the shaft near the heel, a flex rating reading “110-115” is stamped on the top side of the shaft as well. Exhibiting light game-wear that is easily seen through a number of marks and abrasions that are present throughout the entirety of the shaft, lower shaft, heel and untaped sections of the blade, there is also a small chip in the fiberglass over the underside of the shaft near the heel and a bunch of tattering/loose tape around the front portion of the blade. Having been signed by Wayne over the bottom portion of the shaft on the forehand side with a black marker ink signature that displays without issue, the stick comes accompanied by a PSA/DNA LOA for the autograph and a Perry Nelson LOA for the stick itself.
