Hailing from the period of time before the United States' entry into the Second World War, the Cracker Jack Company issued a set of “United Nations Battle Planes” airplane collector cards, the set was issued in three distinct series with a total of 147 card images and 295 different card backs for collectors to chase. Manufactured in Montréal Canada by the Walter M. Lowney Co. Limited, under contract with The Cracker Jack Company of Chicago, Illinois, the card fronts featured attractive colour lithographs of World War II United Nations (Allied) aircraft while the reverses feature the card number along with a detailed descriptive text of the aircraft and its performance. Listed in the American Card Catalog by its reference number of V407, offered here is this collection of late-1930s/early-1940s Cracker Jack V407 ''United Nations Battle Planes'' series 1, 2 and 3 cards totalling 345 pieces. Starting with the first series, with the checklist listing a total of fifty (50) cards, a total of fourteen (14) such examples are included in the collection that fall into the grade range of G to VG with flaws such as edge, corner and surface wear as well as light marks to the edges or surfaces while five (5) cards are low-grade PR to FR state. For the second series cards, an overall set of ninety-eight (98), fifty-four (54) cards are included along with extras of cards #29, 31, 53, 60 and 73 (2) and thirteen (13) which are in the same sort of low-grade PR to FR state listed above. For the better condition series 2 examples, most show the same flaws as listed above with a few also displaying light creases and/or light spots/foxing as well. Finally, from the 3rd series, a set of 147 cards, we have 177 cards present including extras of 4, 5, 11 (3), 22, 26, 30, 33, 38, 43, 48, 68 (2), 75, 82, 84, 85 (2), 86, 90 (2), 92, 93, 95, 99 (2), 101 (2), 102 (2), 104, 106, 107 (3), 110, 111, 112 (3), 114 (2), 115, 118 (2), 119 (4), 120, 123, 125, 127, 128, 130, 132 (2), 135, 136, 137 (3), 138 (2), 141, 142 (2), 143 (2) and 146 (3) with the grade range largely around G to VG with some a bit better and some a bit worse after a quick inspection. Additionally, a group of eighty-two (82) low-grade cards from the 3rd series are also included with the collection.
