Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
One of the founding members of the newly minted Pacific Junior A Hockey League (PJHL) in the early-1970s, the Richmond Sockeyes would quickly became one of the strongest teams in the league, winning championships in three (3) straight seasons between 1977 and 1979, winning Doyle Cups in both 1977 and 1979 during that time frame to move on to the Centennial Cup as the Pacific region berth for the national Junior A championship of Canada. Offered here, we present this Richmond Sockeyes jersey that dates from the period of the mid-to-late-1970s. A Heavyweight durene knit garment that is void of any labeling inside either the collar or hem, the jersey is found to measure out to approximately a modern size "42". In a bright salmon colour with black and white stripes, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Sockeyes team crest that displays with beautifully done chain-stitched embroidered details throughout while a "PJHL" league patch has been added over the right breast. Also sporting "12" memorial patches on top of both shoulders, the shoulders and verso of the garment have been styled with the number "22" in dual layer tackle twill numerals, with the numbers on the shoulders showing heavy fading from numerous washings and age as well. Exhibiting excellent game-wear throughout with heavy pilling on the interior (which is void of any sort of fight strap), stick marks are observed over the front and left sleeve while both sleeves show board burns and some small unrepaired holes. With additional holes and fabric runs present over the lower reverse, more board burns along with coloured board paint transfer marks exist over the lower front and reverse while other paint marks are seen over the left sleeve. Finally, sporting a hole under the right armpit due to seam separation, a team repair is located in the upper portion of the right sleeve.
