Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Still holding sole ownership or at least a share of 59 NHL records even though it has been 24 years since he last graced the ice of the National Hockey League, Wayne Gretzky remains one of the most sought-after names in the hobby in almost every form. Offered here, we present this pairing of Gretzky signed two card sets (one being signed and the other not) including his 1995-96 Upper Deck SP cardboard and his 996-97 Upper Deck Collector's Choice offering with both coming with an Upper Deck Authenticated COA. Starting with the 1995-96 SP offering, picturing The Great One during his short time as a member of the St. Louis Blues, both of the foil/metallic front offerings display in NM or better condition with the unsigned card still housed in a large screw down holder that once also housed the signed card as well. Speaking of the autographed card, signed by Wayne over the front with a beautiful fine blue marker ink autograph and serial numbered "391/500" underneath in matching ink, both the auto and serial number display without issue. Having had an Upper Deck hologram numbered "BAC07243" affixed to the lower reverse, a matching UDA COA will accompany. For the 1996-97 UD Collectors Choice set, again found in the same format and condition as the 1995-96 SP set, an unsigned card is housed in a large screw down holder that once had both cards inside it. Picturing Wayne during his first season with the Rangers, "The Great One" has signed the front of one with a bold but fine blue ink signature that is serial numbered "324/500" underneath in matching ink with both handwritten notations displaying well. Again having had a UDA hologram affixed to the reverse, the sticker numbered "BAD46756" is accompanied once again by a matching COA. Additionally, both sets come in their original Upper Deck boxes that remain in excellent condition with just light handling wear exhibited.
