Drafted 38th overall by the New York Islanders at the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, Dennis Vaske would play a total of 235 games over the course his NHL career as a member of the Islanders and later the Boston Bruins. Experiencing a career largely derailed by injuries, offered here is this Islanders jersey worn by Vaske during the 1995-96 season and is the one he was wearing when he took the infamous hit from Los Angeles Kings winger, Eric Lacroix, on November 22nd, 1995. Made by CCM both size “54” and Maska labels are affixed to the inner collar while the CCM and NHL shield emblems have been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with the infamous Islanders “Fisherman” crest that lasted only two seasons and matching light house alternate logo patches over both shoulders, Vaske’s number “37” has been added over the sleeves and verso in tri-layer stacked tackle twill numerals while “Vaske” is spelt out in single layer navy twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Displaying game-wear thorough stick marks over the front and reverse with board burns present over the sleeves, pilling is observed on the interior and the jersey has been cut up the middle on the front and left sleeve to facilitate removal from Vaske after the injury. Additionally, numerous blood stains are present throughout the piece. An LOA from Byron’s Hockeyland will accompany.
