Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

Playing his junior hockey with both the Kitchener Rangers and Sudbury Wolves of the OMJHL, Dale Hunter would be selected 41st overall by the Quebec Nordiques at the 1979 NHL Entry Draft and would go on to play in a total of 1407 games over the course of his career with the likes of Quebec, Washington and Colorado. The middle of three Hunter brothers, with older brother Dave and younger brother Mark also playing in the NHL, Hunter has gone on to lead the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League to four (4) OHL championships and a pair of Memorial Cup championships as their head coach, a position he had held since the 2001-02 season. Offered here, we present this photo-matched Quebec Nordiques jersey worn by Hunter during the 1986-87 season, his last with the club before his trade to Washington. Made by CCM and void of any tagging affixed to the inner collar, the jersey measures out to roughly a size "52" for its effort and has had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with a Nordiques team crest in layered tackle twill style that also features embroidered details, the distinguished alternate captain's "A" has been added over the left breast via a single layer white vinyl letter, with the team also having added another one nearly directly on top of the the other creating a drop-shadow effect. Having had the all-important Rendez-Vous '87 patch added over the right sleeve, the sleeves and verso of the jersey have been accented with Hunter's number "32" in single layer white vinyl numbers while "Hunter" has been spelt out in matching style letters across the affixed matching nameplate at the top of the reverse. Also displaying white vinyl Fleur-de-lis across the lower front and reverse plus both shoulders, the vinyl details throughout display with heavy cracking/flaking, something that is common with Nordiques jerseys of this era. Showing heavy game-wear throughout its entirety, stick marks and coloured board/post paint transfer marks are present over the front, reverse and both sleeves while both sleeves also show board burns and unrepaired cuts/holes. With additional signs of wear observed through some discolouration of the white areas from use and numerous washings/age as well as fabric pulls/pills throughout, the interior of the jersey showcases heavy pilling along with the original fight strap. Regarding the photo-match, the jersey is matched with Getty Image #115263374 (April 2nd, 1987 vs New York Islanders) to the board burn above the "2" of the left sleeve and the black mark at the left side of it as well as to a smaller board burn below it and to various dark marks over the front hem.
