Hailing from years that saw the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1959 and 1961) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1965 - over the Blue Bombers), win Grey Cups as the champion of the Canadian Football League, offered here are complete sets of 1959 and 1961 Topps CFL cards as well as a near complete set (112/132) of 1965 Topps CFL.
Starting with the 1959's, the 88-card assembly presents in an overall uniform mid-grade condition range of VG to VG-EX with a couple higher grade examples present as well, including the key cards of #43 picturing Jackie Parker (slight fuzz at bottom left corner) and #56, the RC of Russ Jackson (top right corner fuzz) with both falling into the scope of EX to EX-MT. Also including VG-EX to EX cards of 15-Dorow/Checklist (unmarked) and 45-Coffey (RC - slight corner wear), the rest of the keys include the examples of 30-Patterson (G to VG - small scuff on back), 44-Barry/Checklist (VG to VG-EX - unmarked) and 72-Mosca (G to G+ - RC - crease). With the other star players in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, condition exceptions include those of 1-Rauhaus (creased), 52-Graham (surface damage) and 80-Clarke (ink on back).
For the 1961 set, complete at 132-cards, is found to be in an overall uniform condition range of EX throughout with about four (4) cards sporting a noticeable crease, 3-4 cards having discolouration on the reverse and card #71 displaying with ink on its back. For the key cards, those of 20-Kapp (70-30 centering), 62-Dixon RC and 123-James RC leading the way in the condition range of EX to EX-MT while the card of 47-Faloney (80-20 centering) is viewed as being EX to EX+ and 39-Parker (80-20 centring) falls into the neighbourhood of VG-EX to EX. Continuing, 1-Bailey (80-20 centring), 76-Jackson (off-center on the reverse) and 85-Stewart RC (light corner wear) are in the scope of VG to VG-EX while 4-Fleming RC (rough borders) and 56-Patterson (light corner wear, dull front and stain on reverse) are in the range of G to VG. Lastly, 33-Coffey (scuff) and 79-Lancaster RC (large light crease) are in the vicinity of G to G+ condition, as is card #102, the checklist, which is marked, has a crease and displays with rough edges. Additionally, the rest of the star players are in a condition consistent with the rest of the assembly.
Finally, the near complete set of 1965’s, missing cards 6, 8, 21, 32, 35, 53, 57, 59, 60, 62, 70, 82, 91, 98, 120, 124, 128, 129, 130 and 131 out of the 132-card checklist, is in an average condition scope of EX with a few cards sporting a crease that is worth making note of. For the key cards, those of 51-Henley (80-20 centering and light corner wear), 55-Mosca (tiny right border dent) and 96-Lancaster (small top left corner ding) are all in the vicinity of EX to EX-MT while 33-Coffey (light corner wear - 80-20 centering) and 67-Faloney (corner wear) are close behind, registering in the neighbourhood of VG to VG-EX. With card #110 of Jack Parker (corner wear and small dent) in the scope of VG to VG+ shape, the final two cards include a G to VG range copy of card #12 picturing Joe Kapp that sports a tiny crease at the top and a light stain as well as a FR to G copy of card #132, the checklist, which is both marked and creased. A wonderful lineup of CFL cardboard sure to be pleasing to our lucky winning bidder.
