The youngest winner of the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender as an 18-year-old rookie in 1984, Tom Barasso is the also youngest NHL netminder to ever be awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy. The Boston native backstopped the Pittsburgh Penguins to a pair of consecutive Stanley Cup championships, in 1991 and 1992. A veteran of 777 National Hockey League games for Pittsburgh, Ottawa, Carolina, Toronto and St. Louis who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2023, offered here is this Penguins jersey donned by Barrasso during the early part of the 1989-90 season. An Ultrafil material garment made by CCM, a washed out Maska label is affixed to the inner collar that display's Barrasso's number "35" in faded black marker ink while the jersey itself measures out to roughly a size "56". Having had the CCM logo embroidered into the reverse hem as well as "Century Sports", then the Penguins customizer, the front of the jersey is decorated with a Penguins "gold toe" team crest that features embroidered details throughout. Accented over the sleeves and verso with Barrasso's number "35" in dual layer tackle twill numerals, "Barrasso" is spelt out in single layer yellow twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate that runs shoulder-to-shoulder at the top of the back. Of note, the jersey can be distinguished as being from the first set worn in the 1989-90 season based on the fact that it has both the CCM logo it does in the hem as well as the Century Sports embroidery plus the fact that the nameplate is sewn on below the shoulder seam. While virtually identical to the 1988-89 set two (2) jerseys, those had the nameplate sewn on much higher up, virtually touching the back of the collar. Worn for two (2) of the five (5) games the black coloured first set of jerseys was worn in to start the year, including October 5th, 1989 vs Washington and October 7th, 1989 vs St. Louis, the jersey shows game-wear in the form of a couple light marks over the right sleeve and some light pilling around the collar while spot staining is seen throughout the body/sleeves and small fabric snags/pills are present at both cuffs from rubbing against Tom's goalie gloves. Having had the fight strap cut out of the interior, a few pills are found on the interior along with some fraying to the embroidered parts of the front crest. Having had a hologram from DoubleDekeHockey affixed behind the CCM logo on the interior, an LOA from Byron's HockeyLand will accompany the piece.
