A large polarizing figure when on the ice that wasn’t afraid to drop the mitts, Chris Neil, drafted 161st overall by Ottawa at the 1998 NHL Entry Draft after two years with the North Bay Centennials in the OHL, would play his entire career of 1026 NHL games with the Senators and become the fourth player in franchise history of have their number retired by the club on February 17th, 2023. Offered here, is this Sens jersey worn by Neil during the 2008-09 season. Made by Reebok, a lone size “58” tag displaying a small handwritten “X” in black ink is affixed to the inner collar while crest patches for both the NHL and Reebok adorn the front and reverse necklines respectively. Decorated over the front with a Senators team crest that features both textured and embroidered details, matching alternate logo crests have been added over each shoulder. Having had Neil’s number “25” sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer white-over-black tackle twill numerals, “Neil” is spelt out in single layer white twill letters across the affixed matching nameplate. Showcasing a customized shortened fight strap on the interior, game wear exhibited on the jersey includes team repairs over both sleeves, a small board burn above the left sleeve number “2” and light stick marks over the left forearm and right collarbone. Sporting a MeiGray tag numbered “F06968” sewn inside the reverse hem, according to the company’s population report, the jersey is a “Red Set 1 – Back Up” specimen.
