Drafted 131st overall by the Hartford Whalers in 1984, Mike Vellucci would play a total of two games in his NHL career, spending the rest of his playing days in various North American minor leagues until retiring in 1995. A successful coach in both the OHL and AHL, where he won a Calder Cup in 2019, offered here is this Whalers jersey worn by Vellucci during the 1987-88 season. Made by CCM, a Maska Air-Knit label displaying handwritten size “52” and number “34” identifiers in blue ballpoint pen and black marker ink is affixed to the inner collar while the CCM logo is embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a Whalers team crest in layered tackle twill, the sleeves and verso have had Vellucci's number “34” sewn to the sleeves and verso in dual layer green-over-blue tackle twill numerals while “Vellucci” is spelt out in matching style across the upper back in letters that have been individually sewn directly to the jersey. Worn for just a single game, the jersey displays no obvious signs of game wear except for a couple of small marks over the front crest. Exhibiting staining over the front and hemline, the jersey comes accompanied by a Byron’s Hockeyland LOA.
