Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024

With a franchise history dating back to 1945 when the team operated in the Pacific Coast Hockey League (1945–1952) and Western Hockey League (1952-70), the Vancouver Canucks were granted a spot in the National Hockey League beginning with the 1970-71 season and have gone on to advance all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals on three (3) occasions. Offered here, we present this Vancouver Canucks game-worn jersey that dates from either the 1970-71 or 1971-72 seasons, their first two (2) years in the NHL. A durene knit garment made by General Athletic, a size "46" label is affixed to the inner collar while a partially washed out brand label displaying washing instructions is affixed inside the reverse hem. Decorated over the front of the jersey with Vancouver's iconic "Stick in Rink" team crest that features chain-stitched details as well as some light colour bleed in the white portions that have occurred from age and washings, the sleeves have been accented with white tackle twill "V"'s at each elbow as well as the number "26" in single layer white twill numerals. With "26" over the reverse in matching white twill numerals, the jersey exhibits game-wear via a couple of small team repairs over the reverse, a stain near the right cuff and a small amount of light pilling on the interior. Void of a fight strap on the interior, research shows that the number was worn in this style only by Ken Block for a single game (March 3rd, 1971 @ Toronto) during the team's inaugural season.
