Playing four (4) years of college hockey with the Huskies of Michigan Technological University between 1972 and 1976 and helping the school to a National Championship in 1975 plus a runner up finish during his sophomore and senior seasons also, Mike Zuke would be drafted 47th overall by the WHA's Indianapolis Racers in 1974. Also selected 79th overall by the NHL's St. Louis Blues that same year, Zuke would go on to play eighty-six (86) career games in the WHA over the course of his career as well as 455 games in the National Hockey League. Offered here, we present this WHA Edmonton Oilers jersey worn by Zuke during the first half 1977-78 season, his lone year with the club, that was also worn the second half of the 1976-77 season by Wayne Connelly. Void of its original Maska brand label that was affixed to the inner collar, the original size/washing instructions tag is still affixed to the shoulder seam but shows heavy fading. Measuring out to roughly a size "46", the front of the jersey is decorated with an Oilers team crest that has been administered in layered tackle twill while the sleeves and verso have been accented with the number "12" in dual layer blue-over-orange tackle twill numerals. Of note, the Oilers only wore Maska made jerseys during the second half of the 1976-77 season and first half of the 1977-78 season before switching to Rawlings. Having had "Zuke" spelt out in screened on single layer blue letters across the affixed white twill nameplate at the top of the upper reverse, evidence of the longer former "Connelly" nameplate can be seen over the upper reverse as well. Exhibiting excellent game-use throughout and retaining a loop style fight strap on the interior along with good pilling, many team repairs, including a 3-inch long horizontal one that appears in the lower blue stripe over the front and a sizeable material-backed one over on the right sleeve, appear throughout. For the rest of the jersey, wear is present via stick marks, numerous board burns, pilling, a couple of unrepaired holes, sweat/spot staining and general discolouration from use/age.
