Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2023
From his final NHL season and third in Manhattan as a member of the New York Rangers, where he netted 62 points in 70 games to close out his career total of 2857, we offer this stick used by “The Great One” during the 1998-99 campaign. A Hespeler 5500 model with “Gretzky” stamped to the upper shaft, a production stamp reading “55 8” is found alongside “The Great One’s” moniker while a stiffness rating stamp reading “120-125” is found over the lower shaft as well. Accented with Wayne’s familiar shaved “Jack the Gripper” over the handle and knob, the stick also retains its original black tape job that displays with baby powder residue over the blade. Displaying with evidence of game-use via marks and abrasions over the lower shaft, heel and untaped section of the toe as well as directly under the grip at the top of the shaft, the black cloth wrapping over the blade sports puck marks over both sides as well. A prized and desirable specimen for all hockey collectors, a Shawn Chaulk LOA will accompany the piece.
