Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Equally as famous for his 19-year Major League Baseball career with the New York Yankees as he is for having once been married to Marilyn Monroe, Joe Dimaggio’s baseball career saw him win nine (9) World Series rings, three (3) American League MVP awards, two (2) American League batting championships and of course, set a still unbroken Major League record of 56 straight games with a hit. Offered here, is this lot consisting of a pair of items autographed by “The Yankee Clipper”. Starting out, we have an Official American League baseball signed by DiMaggio. A Rawlings made Gene Budig example that dates between 1994 and 1999, the ball shows heavy toning throughout that is even all the way around with all the stampings remaining pristine except for a small part at the start of “Rawlings” that is lightly worn. DiMaggio has signed the sweet spot of the ball with a blue ballpoint pen ink signature that displays well despite some moderate fading from age. Housed in a ball holder that is mounted on a wooden base, a metal identifier plaque reading “Joe DiMaggio – The Yankee Clipper” is mounted to the front. Also included with that lot, we have a 11” x 14” photo of “Joltin’ Joe” that shows him during a Yankee game and has been signed by him just under his chin in black marker. With the photo itself remaining in good condition, the autograph itself is heavily worn and faded and barely visible. A great pairing from one of the best to ever play the game of baseball, a JSA Auction LOA will accompany the pairing.
