The NHL’s first overall draft choice in 1988, Mike Modano spent over two decades with the Minnesota/Dallas organization, and currently holds the club records for games played, points, goals and assists. Quite possibly the greatest American born NHL player of all-time, proudly offered here is this Minnesota North Stars jersey worn by Modano during the 1991-92 pre-season. Made by CCM and sporting both size “56” and a sewn over Maska tag that are affixed to the inner collar, the NHL shield, CCM and North Stars logos have also all been embroidered into the reverse hem. Decorated over the front with a North Stars team crest that was introduced the year this jersey hails from and features both textured and embroidered details, the team’s 25th anniversary patch resides over the left shoulder while the all-important NHL 75th anniversary patch is seen over the right breast. The sleeves and verso have had Modano’s number “9” sewn to them in tri-layer green-over-black-over-white tackle twill numerals while a matching nameplate with “Modano” spelt out across it in matching style is affixed across the top of the back. Of note, this style of nameplate was used for just the pre-season and possibly a couple of regular season games but due to media and fans saying they couldn’t read the names, the team switched to simple single layer white twill letters on their nameplates instead, making this surviving example extremely rare. Obtained by our consignor directly from Modano from his personal collection, the jersey shows just very light wear through a small number of stick makers over the lower front, some loose threads on the interior, pilling at both cuffs (heaviest on the right one) and some lint stuck to the Velcro of the fight strap. An LOA from our consignor will accompany the piece.
