Two classic sets released by Topps depicting the combatants of the gridiron, offered here is this lot consisting of complete assemblies of both 1967 and 1985 Topps Football.
Starting with the 1967 offerings, the final set depicting only the players of the AFL (American Football League) and released the year after Super Bowl I, the group is led by a copy of Joe Namath’s card which has earned a grade of EX-MT 6 from PSA that displays a tad off-center from right-to-left and with beautiful colours. Featuring a 132-card checklist, the key cards are paced by EX to EX-MT cards of 97-Maynard (hairline factory crease at top left), 105-Otto (light fuzz at top right border) and 106-Biletnikoff (light corner wear) while card #61 of Len Dawson is seen as being EX with light corner wear. Followed up by VG-EX to EX cards of 24-Kemp (light corner wear) and 103-Lamonica (light corner wear), cards seen in the neighbourhood of VG to VG-EX include the likes of 1-Huarte (light corner wear and small dent at the top left) and 131-Duncan RC (off-center with light corner wear). Finishing up the notables with a G to VG copy of card #123 of Lance Alworth that showcases a light crease at the left side, cardboard in the scope of FR to G include those of checklists #59 and #132, both of which have been marked, show creases and have corner wear, as well as card #82, the rookie of Wahoo McDaniel has a large crease through it. An overall mid-grade set in the range of VG-EX to EX with some EX-MT specimens as well that is housed in nine-pocket plastic pages in a binder, other star players are consistent with the rest of the set with some exceptions including card #74 of Cookie Gilchrist that is creased and in a low-grade.
For the 1985 assembly, consisting of 396-cards, the group is seen as being in an overall uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM. Including the rookie card of Warren Moon in the condition range of EX-MT to NM condition, other key cards in the same range include 33-Payton (60-40 centering), 124-Taylor (small wax spot on reverse), 157-Montana, 192-Marino/Montana Passing Leaders (light wax on reverse), 282-Allen, 292-Long and 314-Marino (slightly off-center from top-to-bottom) while those a tad worse off include 40-Dorsett (slight corner wear at bottom left) and 238-Elway (bottom right corner wear). With the other star cards in a condition that is consistent with the rest of the set, the three (3) checklist cards are all unmarked though #394 shows wax on its reverse.
