Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
Featuring a checklist of 528-cards, something that had become a commonplace with Topps football releases, the company's 1982 release, highlighted by the first-year cardboard of players like Lawrence Taylor, Ronnie Lott and Anthony Munoz, marked a breakthrough of sorts as the set was licensed by NFL Properties for the first time, meaning Topps was able to use team logos within its photos. Previously, logos on helmets were all airbrushed in the image. Including subsets such as Record Breakers (1-6), Playoffs (7-9), League Leaders (257-262) and Brothers (263-270), "In Action" cards of top players are scattered throughout the set as well while Team Leader (TL) cards feature statistical leaders on the front as well as a team checklist on the back. Offered here we have this unopened box of 1982 Topps football cards. Featuring a total of thirty-six (36) packs on the interior, each housing 15 cards and of course, a stick of beautifully pink bubble gum, the unopened specialists at Baseball Card Exchange recently examined the packs and deemed them unopened and then sealed the box with the company’s shrink wrap. Featuring the image of Buffalo Bills quarterback, Joe Ferguson, over the top lid plus the left and right sides as well as an unidentified San Francisco 49er, the box survives in admirable condition with surface wear to all the sides and top lid, which also sports a partially perforated fold up display. With packs originally costing .30 cents, creasing is found over the top lid, bottom and back side of the box while the corners and edges show moderate to heavy wear especially at the bottom right on the front side and all four of the corners on the back side, with the top right showing a small tear. With the bottom of the box has had a Baseball Card Exchange information label and hologram affixed over top of the cellophane, the box is a true surviving treasure and the only question that remains for our lucky winning bidder is whether or not to bust this beauty open upon receiving it. Good luck!
