This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2023
A classic pairing of sets featuring the men who helped write the seven-season history of the World Hockey Association is up for grabs here in the form of complete assemblies of O-Pee-Chee's 1976-77 and 1977-78 WHA releases. Starting with the earlier 1976-77 set, released during a season that saw the Quebec Nordiques win their first AVCO Cup, features 132 total cards and is in an overall condition range of EX to EX-MT for the raw offerings (both sets are housed in plastic binder pages) while being paced by a group of seven (7) PSA graded specimens that includes the likes of Robbie Ftorek (NM 7), Bobby Hull AS (NM-MT 8), Mike Ford (NM-MT 8), Thommy Abrahamsson (NM-MT 8), Andre LaCroix (NM-MT 8), Ernie Wakely (NM-MT 8) and Wayne Connelly (NM-MT 8). For the raw key cards, #50 of Gordie Howe (80-20 centering) and #111 of Frank Mahovlich lead the way condition wise at EX to EX-MT while 52-Keon (light corner wear), 72-Howe AS (top right corner ding) and 100-Hull (bottom left corner ding) are all perceived as being in the scope of VG-EX to EX condition. Finally, the checklist card, #117 in the set, is in the neighbourhood of G to G+ due to a crease but is unmarked.
For the 1977-78 set, the last WHA release done by O-Pee-Chee and consisting of a smaller 66-card checklist, is paced by PSA graded cards of John Garrett (NM-MT 8), J.C. Trembley (NM-MT 8), Norm Ferguson (NM-MT 8) and Dennis Sobchuk (NM-MT 8) while the rest of the set, found to be in an overall uniform condition range of EX-MT to NM, includes keys of 50-Hull and 61-Mahovlich in the same condition neighbourhood while the set's lead off card of Gordie Howe is a bit worse off, falling into the realm of EX to EX-MT with light corner fuzz. Additionally, the checklist card, #58 in the set, is unmarked and in EX-MT to NM condition.
