77 cards larger than the set from the previous season, the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee release rang in at 341 total cards, the biggest set released by the Canadian manufacturer up to that point and came at an important time in hockey history as the WHA entered the professional climate with its first season of play that same year. Up on the block here and found in complete set form, is this 341-card assembly of O-Pee-Chee’s 1972-73 release. Paced by a group of seven (7) graded cards that are mostly PSA examined offerings, the group includes the likes of HOFers Bobby Orr (PSA NM 7), Tony Esposito (PSA NM 7) and Stan Mikita (PSA NM-MT 8) as well as Mike McMahon (PSA NM 7), Rick Macleish (SGC MINT 9), Guy Trottier (KSA NMM 8) and Ron Anderson (BVG NEAR MINT 7). For the rest of the set, existing in raw ungraded form in plastic nine pocket pages with an overall uniform condition range from EX to EX-MT to NM, the key cards are led by EX-MT to NM copies of 14-Clarke, 59-Lafleur, 145-Dryden and 230-P. Esposito AS and is followed by EX to EX-MT cards of 8-Dionne (light corner wear), 58-Orr In Action (tiny ding bottom left), 111-P. Esposito (light wear bottom left corner), 228-Hull AS (small ding at bottom right corner) and 336-Hull (light corner wear). Including three (3) other cards of Bobby Orr, all four (4) checklist cards remain unmarked while cards #290 to #341 are of WHA players. With the set’s other star cards in a condition range that is consistent with the rest of the set, the player crest 22-card subset is also included with the lot in complete form, led by an EX-MT to NM Bobby Orr example as well as an EX to EX-MT Ken Dryden specimen that has slight white surface scratches along the bottom middle of the card. A classic trip down memory lane awaits our lucky winning bidder!
