Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Ever popular among all vintage collectors, O-Pee-Chee’s 1968-69 hockey release is featured here, found in a complete 216-card assembly that presents itself in an overall consistent mid-range grade of VG-EX to EX. For the notables, the all-star cards of both Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull lead the way condition wise with the trio being found in the condition range of EX to EX-MT. For cards seen as being in the proximity of VG-EX to EX we have the likes of 111-Hall (off-center), 155-Mikita and 214-Orr Norris Trophy (surface marks) while the cards in the VG to VG-EX scope include the set’s key rookie card of Bernie Parent as well as 29-Howe (factory wrinkle in the middle), 34-Sawchuk (90-10 centering, rough bottom border), 121-Checklist (marked) and 166-Beliveau (corner wear). Including the cardboard of 16-Hull in the range of VG to VG+ (95-5 centering), cards in the range of G to VG include #’s 7-P. Esposito (95-5 centering), 6-Checklist (messily marked), 164-Vachon (very small crease at the right side) and 181-Plante (two small creases). For the last pair of notables, card #2 of Bobby Orr is seen as being in the vicinity of G to G+ condition while being completely off-center and showing a small mark at the bottom left while card #140 of Gerry Cheevers registers as PR due to multiple creases. Featuring many off-center offerings throughout the rest of the set, it should be noted that card #1 of Doug Harvey is in PR condition because of creasing, surface stains/wax marks and a miscut. Still a respectable grouping, this trip down memory lane is sure to bring a smile to the face of our lucky winning bidder!
