Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
Always popular and talked about highly among those collectors that chase vintage offerings, Parkhurst’s inaugural hockey release from the 1951-52 season is up for grabs here in near-complete form with 103 of the 105 cards that make up the checklist being included. Featuring both options and rookie cards galore, the assembly offered here is paced by a group of seventeen (17) cards that have been graded by either PSA or SGC. Missing only cards #63 of Alex Delvecchio and #86 Ted Kennedy for completing and including the PSA slabbed RC’s of HOFer Maurice that has been assessed a mark of VG-EX 4, the first-year cardboard of Terry Sawchuk and Gordie Howe have both been examined by SGC who have given the respect cards designations of VG 3 and “A” for authentic. For the rest of the graded offerings, all housed in PSA holders, the group is led by a lone EX-MT 6 of Ed Krysanowski (RC- UER) and is followed by VG-EX 4’s of Bert Olmstead (RC – HOF), Danny Lewicki (RC) and Howie Meeker (RC – HOF), a VG+ 3.5 of The Winning Goal, VG 3’s of Elmer Lach (HOF) and Butch Bouchard (RC – HOF), GOOD 2’s of Boom Boom Geoffrion (RC – HOF), Gerry McNeil (RC), Red Kelly (RC – HOF), Ted Lindsay (RC – HOF), Turk Broda (HOF) and Jim Conacher (RC) and finally, a lone FR 1.5 of Chuck Rayner (RC – HOF). For the raw ungraded cards, the best offering present is a copy of card #19 that pictures “Sugar Jim” Henry (RC) over the front that is seen as being in the range of EX condition while VG-EX example cards include those of Milt Schmidt (HOF) and Bill Mosienko (RC – HOF), VG+ proximity cards of Bill Quackenbush (RC – HOF) and Doug Bentley (RC – HOF), VG scope cardboard of Bill Gadsby (RC – HOF), Harry Lumley (RC – HOF), Marcel Pronovost (RC – HOF) and Harry Watson (RC – HOF), a GOOD example of Allan Stanley (RC – HOF) and lastly, “A” (Authentic) cards of Doug Harvey (RC – HOF – writing on reverse), Fern Flaman (RC – HOF – trimmed) and Al Rollins (RC – writing on reverse). For the others that fall outside of the notable names, the group is seen as being in the grade range of VG to VG-EX condition while exceptions include #’s 40-Bodnar and 88-Solinger, both of which show bad back damage, #’s 39-Martin, 58-Woit, 67-Goldham which have writing on their reverses and finally, #’s 11-Mosdell, 13-Reay, 43-Gee, 45-Hucul, 65-Prystai, 67-Goldham and 69-Reise, all show noticeable creases.
