Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Always in the “greatest player of all-time” conversation, Bobby Orr appears here on his coveted and forever-popular rookie card to headline this 1966-67 Topps set. No unsightly flaws are to report with the off-centered example, sent to VG+ in part due to a subtle back crease that shows up as a light bend when viewing the front; less-than-an-inch and extending to the right horizontally from the edge of Bobby’s left eyebrow. A few light surface scratches are also to note. Joining the teenage star are a strong majority of crease-free cards, with that of Orr’s future prolific teammate, Phil Esposito, graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Wear at one corner and three sharp corners are noteworthy. Varying degrees of corner wear affect the rest, with VG and VG+ specimens combining to dominate. Smaller percentages of VG-EX, VG-EX+ and EX cards are to be discovered, while the creased roster (of 18) include notables 1-Blake, 13-Sawchuk, 103-Mahovlich RC, 109-Howe (G+), 112-Hull (F), 125-Hull All-Star (VG+) and both “Big M” cards. Both checklists have had their boxes filled-in with “x”s, but display decently with no nasty creases/flaws. Backs are problem-free throughout with the exception of 78-Keon (scotch tape stain) and 115-DeJordy (evidence at one corner region of having been pasted. All-in-all, surely alluring to many hobbyists – Bobby and company always garner interest-plus.
