Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023

Lovers of Tall Boys will absolutely love admiring this fascinating relic, a display piece extraordinaire that will provide perusing enjoyment galore. “Rare” definitely applies, with the 99-card sheet revealing/confirming that (11) 1st Series cards were short-printed. They’re the ones across the middle, in the fifth horizontal row and starring the images of Bobby Hull, Henri Richard, Jean Beliveau and the 2nd Series Checklist, with cards of Pronovost, Westfall, Henry, Green, Harris, Bergman (RC) and Wharram completing the SP roster. You’ll notice how the same group of (44) cards appear above and below the short prints, with Hall, Blake, Kelly, Gilbert, Bower, Mikita, Sawchuk and Ullman among the contributing Hall of Famers – so cool. Measuring just under 28” by 42-3/4” and with the backs of the cards indeed printed, the shocker has survived remarkably well in our estimation, with no drastic creasing. Closer inspection is required to spot the majority of the wrinkles, with the most noticeable and noteworthy being horizontal affairs; a crease makes its way through Marcel Pronovost’s name, while at the opposite (right) edge, multiple creases affect the 2nd Series Checklist. Rips/tears are mostly minimal and near the top; one tear is through the Pit Martin RC (upper right corner) and going partially in the Duff card with a one-inch vertical tear descending from the top edge and into the Toe Blake card. The upper left corner (Claude Provost) is chipped and missing and there is a small tear at the top of the Hall card at the right of the Provost card. The bottom left corner (Leo Boivin) is also detached from the sheet and in two layers and will be sent with the sheet (it was placed on the photos on the listing but it is detached). Your family, friends and colleagues, especially those with an appreciation for vintage hockey cards, will be overlooking, (or not even noticing), the insignificant flaws, mesmerized by the colors and the hockey legends – we believe you’ll all be flabbergasted with this rarity – imagine it on your wall in your special room!
