Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction June 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/27/2023
One of the six expansion teams granted by the NHL to being play for the 1967-68 season, the San Francisco/California/Oakland/Bay Area/Golden Seals would be one of the most colourful teams during their nine (9) season National Hockey League stint, albeit finishing with a franchise record of 182-401-115 in 698 games played. Bought by spirited Oakland A’s owner, Charlie Finley in 1970, the new boss issued bright green and yellow suitcases like the one up for grabs here to his players and staff for road use. Made by Skyway, the piece measures 24” x 20” x 8” and is made of a green coloured vinyl with yellow trim and chrome metal clasps and combination lock on the top edge. Decorated with “Seals” screened to the top left corner on both sides, additional Seals decals once adorned the bottom right of both sides as well though one has come off throughout the years. Showing heavily worn Canada and label decals on one side as well, the piece shows considerable use and wear throughout via scuffs, marks, missing hardware, cuts to the material at a couple of the corners and some light rusting. Of note, the lock seems to be seized and we were not able to get the case open to report on the interior.
